Whether you are renovating your kitchen or would just like to upgrade your kitchenware, having a good tea kettle is always a nice way to ensure a relaxing evening. A tea kettle that can showcase your style and personality can help you have an amazing experience in the kitchen. La Creuset Tea Kettle is one of the best-sold products on the market, and if any brand is said to help you have a stylish kitchen, then it’s La Creuset.

Still, with a tea kettle that has such a high price tag, can you be certain it will be worth it in the long run? With this complete review, you’ll know exactly what is great and what is not so great about La Creuset Tea Kettle. While our focus will be on their Classic Whistling model, we’ll also cover other kettles this brand has, so you can know exactly what to expect and which to buy. If you’re interested to learn more, keep on reading.

All La Creuset Tea Kettles come well packed to avoid any damage. Not that much damage could be made anyway, as kettles are mostly made of steel. Still, this was a nice touch, as it proves the brand really cares about its customers and their satisfaction. However, there is one fairly big issue. On the inside of the lid, there is a sticker, glued with adhesive. It wasn’t easy to remove, and it took quite some time to get rid of the glue in its entirety. While it isn’t certain if the sticker or the adhesive is toxic, no one wants to have that on the inside of the kettle. And each La Creuset Tea Kettle had one, which is surely not a bonus.

The Traditional La Crueset Tea Kettle, despite sporting some pretty classic features, still has a unique and recognizable design. The attention the manufacturer gave to the details is astonishing, and this doesn’t ruin the functionality. It comes in the same color gradient as Zen Kettle and Kone Kettle, and you can get it in five different colors (grey, red, blue, white, orange).

One of the best features of his La Creuset Tea Kettle is its heat resistant knobs and whistle. With these features, you don’t have to get an oven mitt to open the kettle and pour boiling water into the mug. This can save you a lot of time and burned fingers, as well. Both the whistle tab and the handle remain comfortable to the touch, even right after you take the kettle from the stove. Other than being heat resistant, the handle is held by stainless steel brackets and it can lock itself into place in the upright position. This keeps it secure while you pour it. Still, as it would take too much space like this, it can also be pushed sideways, so you can store it easier when you’re not using it.

The Kone La Creuset Tea Kettle is very similar to the Traditional tea kettle in its characteristics and coloring, but it is more triangular and the handle is round instead of square. Also, this kettle is quite smaller than the previous one, although this is still enough for four to five cups of hot tea.

One noticeable problem with both of these kettles is that it can be a bit difficult to lift the lid if you only hold it by the handle.

The two stainless steel kettles are pretty much the same in appearance and characteristics as The Kone La Creuset Tea Kettle and the Traditional one, but they are made entirely from stainless steel, which makes them much more durable. They come in a much less appealing design and you don’t have the option to choose colors, but they will go great with your steel or chrome kitchenware. However, you have to have in mind that these kettles cost more than the previous two, and even they aren’t that cheap.

The Zen La Creuset Tea Kettle is the latest one of the brand’s kettles and it tends to be the hardest one to get your hands onto. It is similar in size to the Kone kettle, but it is oval-shaped, with a wider bottom and even rounder handle. It is also the most affordable one of all five kettles, so it is a good choice if you’re looking for a decently priced branded kettle.

All five of the kettles are manufactured with stainless steel, giving them great durability and strength. Even the handles, as the weakest part of any kettle, are enforced with the stainless steel brackets. This makes everything very sturdy, and you can rest assure these kettles will stay with you for a long time. This is especially true with two stainless steel La Crueset Tea Kettles, that are additionally straightened and don’t have a single weak spot on them.

The other three kettles have a thick layer of vitreous enamel both on the inside and the outside. This gives them vibrant colors and designs that La Creuset is famous for. The stainless steel heats up really fast, meaning you’ll have a hot tea in no time. At the same time, the enamel is stick-free and easy to clean, so you can wash everything easily. With this, the maintenance of the kettles is at a minimum, which is a dream come true for anyone.

The combination of these high-quality materials, joined with the heat resistant and sturdy knobs and handle, makes it clear that these are kettles made to last for a very long time. So, while they are among the top list of expensive products, this alone makes them worth every cent.

As these kettles are made from steel, you can use them on any sort of stovetop, whether it is gas, ceramic, electric, induction, or radiant ring. Their design enables them to heat the water rather quickly, so you don’t have to stand by it for hours waiting for the water to boil. In fact, it can heat two servings of water in just a few minutes!

Keep in mind that these kettles aren’t to be microwaved or used in an oven, despite what some are claiming.

Also, this kettle is good not just for brewing tea, but also for preparing coffee. As it’s very straightforward to clean, you don’t have to worry about coffee stains.

Cleaning and Maintenance

While we have briefly touched on this when we discussed the materials, here’s a bit more detailed overview of cleaning and maintenance of the La Creuset Tea Kettle. While it’s very easy to clean, it isn’t entirely effortless as one might think. This is because this product isn’t machine-washable. In other words, you can only wash it by hand. If you don’t want to grab that kitchen sponge, this product is not for you.

Luckily, as the exterior of the kettle is stick-proof, this process isn’t as difficult as it may seem. You can easily wipe off any stains from it without too much effort. Just make sure you don’t use any strong dishwashers, as well as any abrasive cleaners. Also, empty the kettle after each use, otherwise, you might end up dealing with limescale, and this is no fun and it can get hard to get rid of. But if you follow these few easy steps, your La Creuset Tea Kettle will stay with you for a very long time, looking the same as the first time you bought it.

Now, this is one thing that isn’t an issue with two stainless steel kettles, but it’s definitely a problem with the other three, colored ones. After testing the exterior of La Creuset Kettle with an XRF instrument, one customer discovered that it was positive for 9,163 ppm Cadmium, which isn’t the best, but it’s still way below the US restrictions, no matter what state you’re in. The interior wasn’t possible to be tested with this XRF instrument, but if it is located inside of the kettle as well, this could be an issue for some, especially for children. Also, these methods can’t determine whether or not these toxic substances can leak into the food and water when cooking or boiling it. Our guess is that it can’t – but the only guarantee so far is the manufacturer’s word.

The kettle is negative for lead, which is a great thing, and it makes everything safe to use according to regulations. Still, if you’re worried about Cadmium, you might want to check with an expert.

As we’ve already mentioned, this is a rather expensive kettle, no matter the model you’re using. Most of them have a price tag of around $100, which is, you’ll agree, quite a lot for a kettle. This, however, is no surprise, having in mind the brand’s reputation and the high-quality materials the kettle is manufactured with. Despite some (safe) amount of Cadmium and a few issues with the lid, the kettles are sturdy, beautiful, very easy to use, and easy to clean. Also, they come with a 5-year warranty, which is more than most kettles come with. All of this makes it rather worthy of the price.
